What keeps existing switchgear serviceable, and which parts change its protection behaviour?
Most switchgear spending after commissioning is component spending. Breakers are rebuilt with contact kits and arc chutes, trip units are swapped to change protection behaviour, and CTs and VTs are replaced when a metering or protection scheme changes. For an obsolete frame these parts often decide whether an existing lineup can be maintained at all, or whether the whole assembly has to be replaced to keep a facility protected.
